2017 FIRST Steamworks

FIRST Steamworks

For this years challenge, teams must go back in time and rely on steam power to airships for a long distance journey.  In order to gain power, teams must shoot fuel into a boiler.  At the same time, the robots will need to deliver gears to the pilots, who will be stationed on the game field.  Good luck to all teams this year!

2017 San Diego Regional

DSC02762After two red cards early in the Qualification Matches, Team 5199 ended up being ranked 49th with 5 wins. During the alliance ceremony, we were picked by the 8th seed alliance, joined by Team 3128 Aluminum Narwhals and Team 2637 Phantom Catz. In our first match, we had to face off against the 1st alliance, which consisted of both the #1 and #2 ranked teams. Somehow, our alliance overcame the 1st alliance and moved onto the Semis. In the Semis, we went on to defeat the 4th alliance, allowing us to go into the finals against the 2nd alliance. In the Finals, we lost the first game by only 6 points with a score of 290-296. For the second match, we lost by only 2 points with a score of 305-307, allowing us to take 2nd place. Our team also won the Quality Award for the overall design, functionality, reliability, and quality of our robot.

Out of the Qualification Matches, Team 5199 ranked 20th among some of the best teams in the world. They were then picked by the 5th seed alliance, pairing up with Team 649 M-SET Fish and Team 842 Falcon Robotics. Together, we won 2 out of 3 matches against the 4th seed alliance, allowing us to move on to Semis. In the Semis, we went up against the 1st seed alliance. For the first match, we unfortunately lost, but we came back and won the second match with a score of 395-254. We then moved on to a tense tie breaking match to decide who would move on to the Finals. Unfortunately, we lost in the tie breaking match against the 1st seed alliance, allowing us to rank 3rd overall.
